Happy New Year from all of us at Hurricane Hanks! January is usually the coldest month, or at least one of the coldest months, on Anna Maria Island. That means 60s and sometimes 70s during early January in the daytime and down to the 50s at night. We wouldn’t call it a hellish winter by any means, but it may make you want to fill up your belly a little more than usual.

Certain meals are a real treat when it feels a little colder outside than normal.  It’s also a great time for Anna Maria Island’s fishermen to produce some of their better catches for the year. The colder temperatures, cooler breezes and cooler weather push inshore species over near warm water outflows and the mouths of coastal rivers.

Those who head offshore are being rewarded with catches of red and gag grouper, hogfish, mangrove snapper and even amberjack.
