Here’s something that popped up at the end of May that is great news for tourists and locals.
The existing Coquina Beach Trail has a planned major renovation being discussed by county officials as of the end of April. The existing 1.5 mile trail will be renovated, and county officials may add a parallel trail at Coquina Beach to serve as a golf cart and jitney service (a type of golf cart). No matter what happens with the new trail, the existing renovation promises to be a create a much better environment for nature enthusiasts and leisurely strolls.
Coquina Beach Trail: Enhancing Anna Maria Island’s Natural Beauty
The Coquina Beach Trail project is an exciting initiative aimed at enhancing the island’s charm while providing convenient access to its breathtaking shores. Spanning a length of 1 1/2 miles, this carefully planned pathway will wind its way alongside the beach, offering stunning views of the Gulf of Mexico and the picturesque coastline.
The main objective of the Coquina Beach Trail is to continue to create a seamless and enjoyable experience for visitors who wish to explore Anna Maria Island’s natural beauty on foot or by bicycle.
In addition to offering a scenic route for leisurely walks and bike rides, there are discussions about the possibility of adding a parallel trail specifically for a potential jitney service.
This jitney service, similar to a golf cart shuttle, could transport beachgoers up and down the beach, providing a convenient alternative for those who prefer not to walk the entire length of the trail. Such a service would add an extra touch of convenience and accessibility, allowing everyone to enjoy the island’s pristine shores.
While the exact timeline for the completion of the Coquina Beach Trail renovation is yet to be determined, the project is a testament to Anna Maria Island’s commitment to preserving its natural charm and improving visitor experiences. The trail project includes removal of 96 Australian pines which have been damaging the existing trail for yours. Plans call for replacing the pines with less destructive options like black olive trees. A large number of pines were already removed for the Coquina Beach parking lot expansion.
